US Seminary honours Kumuyi

The founder and General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor WF Kumuyi has been conferred with an honorary Doctor of Divinity by one of the frontline Christian Educational Institutions in the United States of America, the New York-based Alliance Theological Seminary.

In a citation rendered by the Seminary President, Dr. Michael G. Scales, the Seminary extolled the virtues of Christ in the Life and Ministry of Kumuyi, a former Professor of Mathematics at the University of Lagos, Nigeria until his call to preach .

“Kumuyi began a Bible study in his campus flat at the University of Lagos. Fifteen adults attended the first gathering. Eventually, loud speakers were set up outside his flat for those who gathered each Monday and by December of 1975, 1,500 people were involved in the study. The Deeper Life Bible Church was officially begun on November 7, 1982. The message was simple: “Jesus transforms lives – not only to bring healing but complete Christian character.” By 1988, The Deeper Life Bible Church was recognized as the single largest church in Africa, and the fourth largest in the world”, says Dr. Scales.
